Our creative group is interested in:

SPACES: we think and work in various spaces are interested in ways in which they are occupied and ways in which these spaces can be transformed. We dream of transformations and work on converting the dream into an illusion.

THEATER AND CINEMA: we are interested in the idea of theater and ask how we can expand this idea. In other words what is the idea of theater and can we insert the idea of theater in the spaces which we approach? How does this transform not only the space but also this idea of theater?

In my group I introduce a graduate level research to teen aged teem of very young artists. I put both sides myself and my team through this challenge purposely and ask what we can learn from this journey. So far my team proves absolutely brilliant and points me to directions I would have never imagined. I hope this works both ways!!

Dayton is the hometown of Wilbur and Orville Wright. Here is where they lived and invented the airplane. Here is also where air pioneers, engineers and scientists have continued their work. Today we took a trip to the National Museum of the US airforce!!

SISTEEN CHAPLE

Next week we will look and study Michelangelo's painting at Sisteen Chaple. This is to study and inspire the performance piece of our exhibition. What is the relevance of Sisteen Chaple ceiling and our project and what are the possibilities of working in alternative spaces?

The Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, at the commission of Pope Julius II, is one of the most renowned artworks of the High Renaissance. The ceiling is that of the large Papal Chapel built within the Vatican between 1477 and 1480 by Pope Sixtus IV after whom it is named the Sistine Chapel. The chapel is the location for Papal Conclaves and many important services.^[1]

The ceiling's various painted elements comprise part of a larger scheme of decoration within the Sistine Chapel which includes the large fresco The Last Judgment on the sanctuary wall, also by Michelangelo, wall paintings by a team of the most highly regarded painters of the late 15th century including Botticelli and Perugino, and a set of large tapestries by Raphael, the whole illustrating much of the doctrine of the Catholic Church.^[2]^[3]

Central to the ceiling decoration are nine scenes from the Book of Genesis of which the Creation of Adam is the best known, having an iconic standing equalled only by Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, the hands of God and Adam being reproduced in countless imitations.

Sunday Morning I tour the area of Dayton and learn about local architecture, life and culture. I meet people and talk about the economic and political situation. This gives me good ideas how to proceed with our projects for the remaining week. This may not seem related but will plan a trip to the museum of aviation, which I think is important also we will learn a lot more about theatre and cinema. It is after all cinema and theatre that we will be making a part of our exhibition. Also I will look into a local thatrea theatre and movie theatre. Can we go? ...This will be a task for Christopher..CHRISTOPHER:I did my homework and our group will be doing a visit to the National Museum of the US Airforce this Thursday. Today we will look into Laterna Magika, a theatre in Prague (my home town) Laterna Magika is known for combining projected image and theatre play. We will look for an inspiration,working methodologies, ideas... Laterna Magika is still playing in Prague, hope to go this fall when as I visit my family...

Laterna Magika is a Non-Verbal theatre located in Prague. Its origins are connected with the Expo '58 in Brussels.^[1]^[2] The plays are internationally comprehensible since they are silent. The performances are a combination of dance, film and black theatre.^[3] Laterna Magika is a well known tourist destination and is considered key in the development of modern Czech theatre.^{[citation needed]}

Our final exhibition will take place here at the Armory. Our collaborative team will be working on the top floor throughout the summer. So far our vision has taken shape in three rooms located in the back of the gallery space. The Phasmid - Blue Sky Collaborative Team is taking on the TRINITY - working site-specificaly towards three rooms, three doors, three windows in the Armory space.

Shadow Play

Here we are exploring visual presence through shadows. We accomplished this through the use of projecting a simple blue background on the wall in the gallery space. We then stood in front of the projector to create shadows on the wall. This is our documented exploration!!

A shadow is an area where direct light from a light source cannot reach due to obstruction by an object. It occupies all of thespace behind an opaque object with light in front of it. The cross section of a shadow is a two-dimensional silhouette, or reverseprojection of the object blocking the light.

The Blue Sky Summer Dream!!!

The proposed project will explore issues of ‘appearance and concealment’ within the framework of a ‘day time’ and ‘night time’ dream. It will transform an installation as a visual art form into temporal stage of a theatre. The collaborative team will have the opportunity to create an environment for a narrative of a performative action within this ephemeral landscape of dreams. Text by George Didi-Huberman, ‘Phasma’ and issues of ephemeral & permanent and visible & invisible will be central to the main idea of the project.

We will work cross the disciplines and assume a multimedia approach during the process. The concepts of ‘appearance and concealment’ will compliment the ideas of day-time and night-time dreams by means of their ephemeral nature. While the text will act as grounds for the stage structure, the dreams will guide in development of an imaginative narrative of the performance. The production will include, but will not be limited to collecting writings, design of the stage, fabrication of sculptural structures (sets designed as projection screens with use of fabric as a primary medium), developing video projections in combination with the context of the art-performance and other activities. Each new activity will be introduced, workshops and presentations held accordingly to the age group of the participating students and progress of the involved group.
